Molina Healthcare of New Mexico recently celebrated the good deeds of six community heroes at its sixth annual Community Champions Awards. The program celebrates the vision of Dr. C. David Molina, the founder of Molina Healthcare, as well as community partners who work together to care for society’s most vulnerable individuals. Each community champion was nominated by a community-based organization and also received a $1,000 grant to give to a deserving nonprofit organization of his/her choice.

This year’s winners and grantee organizations included The White Family, Cuidando Los Niños; Adrian Carver, New Mexico Alliance of School-Based Health Care; Shelly Currier, WINGS for Life; Jim Helgert, III, New Mexico Addiction Education Network; Jane Batson. Embrace, Inc.; and Dominick Bassi, Silver City Gospel Mission.

“We proudly salute the hard work and dedication of these extraordinary individuals,” said Patty Kehoe, president of Molina Healthcare of New Mexico. “It was a pleasure honoring this year’s Community Champions award winners for the dedication and commitment they put into serving those in need in our communities.”

The ceremony was held at the Albuquerque Museum and included a traditional blessing by Mr. Floyd Toribio, a tribal official and traditional leader of Zia Pueblo. Also in attendance were State Senator Jacob Candelaria and State Representative Rick Miera.
