The MolinaCares Accord Donates $250,000 to the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi to Address Access to Healthy Food

JACKSON, Miss., Nov. 22, 2023 -  The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Mississippi (“Molina”), recently donated $250,000 to the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi (CFNM) to support efforts to overcome food insecurity in the Mississippi Delta.

For nearly a decade, Mississippi has ranked as America’s hungriest state, according to The Harvard Gazette. Approximately 600,000, or 19%, of Mississippians face food insecurity today.

CFNM will distribute the MolinaCares grant funding to organizations in the Delta region that work to ensure children and their families have access to fresh and nutritious food.

“We know many Mississippians living in the Delta face barriers to healthy living,” said Bridget Galatas, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Mississippi. “MolinaCares is proud to partner with CFNM to ensure community-based organizations secure the resources needed to continue food distributions and programs to reach as many individuals in need as possible.”

Grant funding will also help organizations working to support their community through sustainable food systems like farmers’ markets, community gardens, mobile food markets, and more.

“We are grateful for the MolinaCares donation,” said Keith Fulcher, president of the CFNM. “This grant enables multiple organizations to work together to overcome gaps across the Mississippi Delta in access to food and educational resources addressing nutrition.”

The grant to CFNM is part of a larger initiative launched by MolinaCares earlier this year to expand Mississippians’ access to healthy food.
