The MolinaCares Accord Donates $80,000 to Downtown Streets Team in Support of Individuals Affected by Homelessness

06/19/2023

SACRAMENTO, June 19, 2023 –  The MolinaCares Accord, in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of California, (“Molina”), recently presented $80,000 and over 50 blankets to Downtown Streets Team (DST) in support of the Committed 2 Care program in Sacramento.

Through the Committed 2 Care volunteer work experience program, DST partners with unhoused individuals who help to beautify the community in exchange for case management, employment services, and non-cash stipends for basic needs.

Sacramento County’s unhoused population reached a record 9,300 in 2022, up 67% since 2019. The unhoused population surpasses that of San Francisco, which has about 350,000 more people.

“MolinaCares is dedicated to ensuring access to critical resources and improving the health and well-being of those in the communities we serve,” said Abbie Totten, plan president of Molina Healthcare of California. “We are grateful for the opportunity to work with DST to make a positive impact and advocate for individuals in need who give so much to our community.”

The MolinaCares Accord, in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of California, previously donated $10,000 to DST to support unhoused individuals in the program who experienced hardship after flooding in the area.

“We applaud The MolinaCares Accord for setting the bar high for businesses across California by committing to the Sacramento community in such a major way,” said Jim Rettew, interim CEO of DST. “These exemplary partnerships validate our programming and empower us to do what we do best.”

About Downtown Streets Team
Downtown Streets Team (DST) is fighting homelessness through the dignity of work and the power of community. Our flagship program builds teams that restore dignity, inspire hope, and provide a pathway to recover from homelessness. Team members are unhoused neighbors or folks at risk of experiencing homelessness. They receive access to case management, system navigation, and employment placement services from trained DST case managers and employment specialists. Teams engage in community beautification and clean-up projects that help challenge common negative perceptions of homelessness. DST’s employment social enterprise, Streets Team Enterprises, helps unhoused individuals attain sustaining employment by providing training, case management and a transitional wage-earning job.
